It’s important to support your local, small businesses. Shop & dine locally!
Firstly, supporting local businesses helps the local economy (and economy overall), local business owners and employees. Shopping and dining locally also aid in contributions towards organizations and charities. Without small businesses, American towns would be lackluster.
Take, for instance, Dan. Dan is a resident of Pleasantville. His friend owns a local restaurant. As a good friend, Dan is a patron of the restaurant. The money he spends there goes towards maintaining the restaurant, paying the employees and contributing to profits that may help the owner do more with the business in addition to keeping the doors open. Then, an employee of the restaurant uses some of her wage to buy a new outfit from the local department store. With the profits made, the department store can stay open, pay its employees and perhaps help out a local sports team by sponsoring and purchasing uniforms. Hence, the domino effect keeps going.
It takes collaboration, teamwork and support to bring unique goods and services to our towns and cities. Without these local, small businesses, you’d buy everything from big box stores. Therefore, ingenuity would be lost, room for imagination and growth would be halted, there’d be no room for entrepreneurs to open businesses. The local economy would be monopolized by franchised businesses. This leaves no one to help out local organizations and groups, no one to facilitate events and foster creativity in the community.
With that said, get out there and support your local businesses! This Saturday, November 26 is Shop Small Business Saturday. Charm up your day by shopping those cute boutiques and dining at those delectable restaurants you’ve always loved. Save the common stores for another day.
